What does the City of Chicago Buildings Hearing Division do?

The Buildings Hearing Division hears cases initiated from the Building, Fire and Zoning Departments. Common complaints include:

  • Fire code violations (insufficient exits, fire extinguishers, firetrap buildings)
  • Building code violations (buildings with safety, structural, plumbing, and/or electrical problems)
  • Zoning code violations (illegal construction/conversions without a proper permit)
